Regional Delegates, Divisional and Council branch heads are working tooth and nail. There is a hustle and bustle in Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) branches nationwide to finalise its implantation process in preparation for the effective registration of voters for upcoming elections. All the 10 Regional Delegates, 58 Divisional and 360 Council branch heads have already been appointed. The Electoral Board of ELECAM, presided by its chairman, Dr Fonkam Azu??u Samuel recently had a two-day session to draw an action plan for 2010. As a follow
up, the Director General of the General Directorate of Elections in ELECAM, Mohaman Sani Tanimou issued a release announcing training programmes for the institution??s field officials and other actors of the country??s electoral process. In the meantime, the Chairman of ELECAM Electoral Board, Fonkam Azu??u continues having consultation meetings with leaders of political parties. Last Wednesday, he received the National President of the Cameroon National Salvation Front, Issa Tchiroma Bakary who also doubles as the Minister of Communication and the Secretary General of the Union des populations du Cameroun (UPC), Augustin Fréderic Kodock. As work accelerates at ELECAM head office in Bastos, Yaounde, heads of its field structures are busy finalising measures for effective implantation. The ELECAM Delegate for the Centre Region, Louis Martin Ngono on Thursday, April 22 told Cameroon Tribune that the 10 Divisional and 70 Council branch heads of the institution in the region are busy putting in place adequate structures to host ELECAM staff, material and equipment. Louis Martin Ngono disclosed that problems of getting befitting offices still remain in the Yaounde II and V Councils, Evodoula in the Lekie Division, adding that the Mfoundi Divisional Office is yet to be got. The implantation phase of ELECAM has to be complete before the end of April for training seminars to begin in May, he said. In an interview, Mr Ngono describes his activities.
