Mbouda (Bamboutos) ?? The Minister of Forest and, Elvis Ngolle Ngolle says Government needs the contribution of the population of Bamboutos to meet it??s environmental and re-forestation development objectives. The Minister was speaking at the court yard of the Babadjou chief??s palace in the Bamboutos Division, West Region on August, while
officially launching a tree planting campaign known as ??Operation Plant 60.000 Trees?? in Bamboutos. Prof Ngolle Ngolle revealed that within the context of fighting drastic climate change, protect community wildlife, enhance forest management and protect the development of natural resources, his ministry has decided to sign a cooperation agreement with three Councils in the Bamboutos Division. The agreement worth CFA 10 million involves three councils namely Mayors; Kuete Mylord Martin of Mbouda, Delego Jacques of Babadjou and Nchinda of Batcham respectively. The Forest and Wildlife boss who handed over the cheques to the Mayors said it was extremely important that the great natural resources of the Bamboutos Division especially the Bamboutos Mountain be developed and protected from degradation, adding that to succeed in that endeavour both his ministry personnel and partners must work together as a team. Prof Ngolle Ngolle reiterated that urgent action was needed in addressing environmental and forestation degradation problems, and warned against illegal exploitation of the Bamboutos Mountain by unknown individuals and promised serious sanctions against the illegally exploiters. In an earlier welcome address, Babadjou Council Mayor Delego Jacques gave an insight of the vast capacity of the Bamboutos Mountain which is 170 km2 and a population of 60.000 inhabitants. He elaborated the numerous difficulties the population of Babadjou do faced when the water catchments in the area are dry.
