Cameroon – Douala: Injured « bomb maker » dies, one other battling for life

One of the two persons injured in the Bepanda-Douala bomb explosion of January 31st, 2021 has died, according to hospital authorities of the Douala General Hospital.
Eugene Afili, a student of the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Douala, born on the 6th of September 1995 in Balikumbat succumbed to his wounds after revealing that the explosion occurred after he ignited his cooking gas to prepare breakfast.
But investigators say he lied given that he could not have ignited the gas before peeling the potatoes he claimed he wanted to fry.
He further revealed that his friend, Ndua Tangeh Valentine, born on February 22, 1982, who is battling for his life in hospital, was in Douala to buy motor spare parts.
The two, who hail from Balikumbat, are suspected to have been fabricating a bomb when it exploded.
More than 20 batteries for bikes, alarms, and other parts were found in the house where the incident took place.
Security services are now investigating to ascertain the entirety of what actually happened.
It’s a developing story.
