Yaounde Government Delegate, Gilbert Tsimi Evouna, gave a kicker to the business jamboree last Friday. Inhabitants of the country??s capital city, Yaounde and visitors to the town have since Friday December 18, 2009 been thronging to the 20th May Boulevard in downtown, which many describe as a vast supermarket, to either buy, discover new products or relax with their relatives and loved ones. The event, code-named, ??Yaounde en Fête?? (Ya-fé) is a veritable crowd-puller, attracting people of all walks of life and who have their eyes to see and buy goods of all sorts displayed in the over 180 stands. The event serves as a business rendezvous between business people and their customers, with each
business employing all strategies to win the confidence of as many customers as possible. Each exhibitor has employed attractive sales boys and girls to woo customers. Speaking during the opening ceremony last Friday, the Government Delegate to the Yaounde City Council, Gilbert Tsimi Evouna, the organiser of the event, urged exhibitors and buyers to show proof of civility throughout the two-week event which ends on January 3, 2010. Corroborating the Government Delegate, the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Secondary Education, Mounouna Foutsou, described the ongoing Ya-fé as an end-of-year gift to the populace, enjoining all actors to work towards making it a veritable festival. The opening ceremony also served as an opportunity for the Yaounde City Council to reward schools and gardens, with cash prizes, that have excelled in embellishing the city. The prizes ranged from FCFA 500,000 to 200,000. This year??s edition of the business fiesta, observers say, has witnessed a marked improvement in organisation. Not only is the festival village encircled with a fence but the presence of security men and dogs gives exhibitors and visitors the guarantee to go about their activities in quietude. Since Friday, visitors have been taking turns to discover the festival village and what it offers. In a chart with CT, exhibitors as well as visitors lauded the City Council for the initiative. While exhibitors see in the event an opportunity to widen their business scoop, visitors said it is a moment for them not only to relax with friends and relatives but equally to discover new products, especially at a time when most of the products displayed are highly needed.
