Road construction: Minister and state holders evaluate progress

Project managers of some 20 road construction site in Cameroon have given clarification on level of progress and challenges in the execution of their contracts to the Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi.
Head of Construction companies and heads of control missions presented their work to the Minister during a series of meetings to evaluate process on some 40 road construction projects in the country.
Each of the different companies took turns before the Minister and the control missions to give details on the progress so far on the ground. The assessment meeting is in prelude to a field trip by the Minister and his team for a physical evaluation of each of the projects nationwide

Challenges presented
Some of the companies told the Minister that the relatively slow pace of work results from delays in the disbursement of finances. They also highlighted some administrative bottle necks which the minister promised to look into. Minister Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi reassured the contractors that government will take measures to ensure that funds are made available on time. He urged the construction companies to increase their pace of work in order to meet deadlines.

Major Projects
The company in charge of the construction of the Yaoundé – Douala motorway way told the Minister that more that 68 % of the first phase has already been completed. The project consists of a 60 km long double lane road that is expandable of motorway with 360 bridges constructed by the China First Highway Engineering Company. The project that cost some 345,781 billion CFAF to be executed in 48 months began 13th October 2014 is expected to be complete by 12th October 2018
Other projects examined include the 38,5 Km Kribi – Lolabé motor way that cost 453 million US dollars, which is about 250 Billion FCFA (HT) carried out by China Habour Engineering Company Ltd (CHEC). The project is 77 % complete expected in 42 months has as deadline 30th June 2018. Projects on the National road number one, N1: (Yaoundé-Obala-Bertoua-Ngaoundéré-Garoua-Maroua-Mora-Dabanga-Kousseri) were also examined also others.
