The exhibition village is ready to host the over 1000 participants of the 11-day show. Everything being equal, the second edition of Cameroon International Handicrafts Exhibition (SIARC 2010) will kick off hitch-free today. The exhibition village at the courtyard of the Yaounde City Council is set for the event to run from January 22 ?? 31, 2010.In a visit to the village yesterday, final touches were being made to render the over 500 stands usable by the exhibitors who were already streaming into the village. According to the General
Commissioner of the event, Malet ma Njami Mal Njam, the last minute touches were to give the village the image of the country??s craftsmanship. ??We are set for a successful handicrafts exhibition and the village is reflective of the country??s handicrafts??, he said. The 500 stands already erected have been booked by both national and international craftspeople. He stressed that among the more than 1000 exhibitors awaited, more than 300 will be coming from the ten regions of the country selected through the regional handicrafts exhibition organised by the Ministry of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Social Economy and Handicrafts. The rest will be coming from over 20 countries from within and without Africa, institutions as well as individuals who have acquired stands. Mr Malet ma Njami Mal Njam said the innovations this year range from the exhibition village to the style of construction of the stands. Not only has the crafts event moved from the National Museum that hosted the first edition to the Yaounde City Council, the construction of the village is reflective of national unity. ??This edition is holding at a time the country is celebrating 50 years of its independence and we could not but reflect the unity in the country with the stands??, the General Commissioner said. Today??s kick off comes after a conference of African Crafts Ministers which held at the Yaounde Hilton yesterday. Cameroon??s Minister of the Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Social Economy and Handicrafts, Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa, expressed joy with the presence of his peers from other countries, stating that it will boost SIARC 2010. For 11 days craftspeople would have the opportunity to showcase their know-how, win better markets as well as better their knowledge and handwork as they will meet with some of the finest handicrafts people in the continent and beyond.
