Bakingili (Fako) – The West Coast District of Fako Division was the venue on Saturday of a thanksgiving ecumenical service in praise of God for the opportunity offered Chief Ephraim Inoni to serve in government for 22 uninterrupted years. Interpreted as showers of blessings, the rain did not disturb hundreds who turned out to join clergymen from the Catholic,
Baptist, Presbyterian and Muslim denominations in prayers; thanking God for the meritorious services Chief Ephraim Inoni has rendered to the nation. The clergymen unanimously prayed that as a traditional ruler, God should give Chief Ephraim Inoni the wisdom required for him to lead his people. Inspired by «the letter from Saint Paul to the Ephesians», the moderating Priest Reverend Father Etienne Kumbah, (reading from Ephesians Chapter 1 verse 3 – 14), harped on the importance of being holy and blameless before God. He preached against hatred, animosity in any community, and praised Chief Ephraim Inoni and his family for the initiative in offering to God the Thanksgiving Service. «The word of God gives us light and when you have the word of God in you, it gives you hope,» he said. In a word of appreciation, Chief Ephraim Inoni said he was overwhelmed to be back home and thanked God for all the good tidings bestowed on him and his family. Said he, «The Lord is good all the time. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him.» Chief Ephraim Inoni equally thanked President Paul Biya for giving him the opportunity to serve in the government for more than 20 years; 17 as his close collaborator. He expressed his unalloyed support and loyalty to President Paul Biya, the ideals of his New Deal government and reiterated his willingness to serve the country in any capacity. Flanked by his wife, Gladys Inoni and his Director of Cabinet Paul Njie Meoto, the occasion also served as a veritable home-coming exercise for the former PM to commune with his people. Amongst the top officials at the Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service were the Governor of the South West Region, Louis Eyeya Zanga, the Government Delegate to the Limbe City Council Andrew Monjimba, the Mayor of the Buea Council Mbella Moki Charles, traditional rulers, and leaders of the civil society.
