This follows the lifting by Equatorial Guinea of the ban on its operations in that country. The dust raised by the exchange of suspension letters between the Civil Aviation Authorities of Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon on airline companies of the two countries will finally settle on Monday, 31 August.
The General Manager of Cameroon??s Civil Aviation Authority, Sama Juma Ignatius made the assurance yesterday in Yaounde, stating inter alia that the ban on Air Leasing meted on 19 August, was lifted on 21 August in response to Cameroon??s reciprocal prohibition of Ceiba, Equatorial Guinean airliner from using the country??s airports. It took Cameroon almost three weeks to respond to an unjustified ban on its airliner, he said. ??We wrote to the Equato-Guinean Civil Aviation Authority on 10 and 17 August to reconsider their decision but had no response??, Sama Juma told CT, stating it was this long silence that pushed the CCAA to reciprocate by banning Ceiba from Cameroon. As to whether there could be any other reason for the embarrassing decision taken by Equatorial Guinea, the General Manager said he had no knowledge of such a justification. But he said, CCAA??s decision was tailored by the agreement governing inter State air transport system.. According to the agreement, in case of any problem, the two countries must notify each other and discuss before a decision or decisions are taken. That notwithstanding, Equato-Guinean aviation authorities expressed regret having ignited what was almost going to look like a squabble and immediately resumed flight after Cameroon??s response. But the damage caused by the ??squabble?? looks irreparable. Many passengers, most of them Cameroonian business people, found themselves frustrated at the airport. Some are said to have dispatched their goods to Equatorial Guinea by sea but could not cross over by air. What became of the goods is the question on every lip.
