Cameroon Encouraged To Continue Improving Human Rights

The outgoing Director and Regional Representative of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights at the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy for Central Africa, based in Yaounde, Cameroon, Marie-Evelyne Petrus- Barry said Tuesday, June 02 during a goodbye audience with Prime Minister Ephraim Inoni. The Human rights official said within her three years of work in Yaounde, she had excellent cooperation with Cameroon ministries with whom she worked. «With the Ministry of External Relations, we worked on the Universal Periodic review of human rights Cameroon was subject to a few months», Marie-Evelyne Petrus-Barry said, stating that the human rights body has given its recommendations on human rights issues for Cameroon. She also worked closely with the Ministries of Justices, Social Affairs, Women Empowerment and the Family and Basic Education on issues such as the training of magistrates, torture, rights of vulnerable and indigenous people and people living with disabilities. Marie-Evelyne Petrus-Barry leaves Cameroon this month for the UN Human Rights Office in Pretoria, South Africa. She will be responsible for the Office of Communication and Public Information in charge of Communication strategies for Sub-Saharan Africa.
