Some 6,490 new teachers have been recruited into the Ministry of Basic Education. The names of the 2,429 male and 4,061 female teachers were published on September 4, at the Ministry of Basic Education in Yaounde and in all the regional delegations of Basic Education. It is within the contractualisation programme of teachers at the Ministry of Basic Education which started in 2007 and is expected to

end in 2011. The current recruitment of teachers is part of fourth operations of the contractualisation programme which counts for the 2010 academic year. Following a recruitment programme launched last June, the Ministry of Basic Education on Friday, September 4, published 6,490 names of those who have been retained for contractualistaion into the Ministry of Basic Education. The Director of Human Resources at the Ministry of Basic Education, Paul-Valentin Emog says all teachers recruited had to be holders of the Teachers Grade One Certificate, a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) teacher and the length of time the teacher has been teaching with the basic education sector were all taken into consideration. There are four categories of teachers recruited. 19 teachers for schools in the military barracks, 52 for institutions for the physically disabled, 1,391 PTA teachers and 5,028 are holders of the Teacher??s Grade One Certificate. Dr Emog says the specificity of this year??s recruitment is that the teachers have already been placed at the services of the various regional delegations of basic education which are charged with transferring them to various duty posts according to the needs from the field. The transfer of the teachers has to do with those with the Teacher??s Grade One Certificate. Those already working in the military barracks and institutes for the handicapped as well as PTA teachers have just been confirmed in their areas of work. In a week, the newly- recruited teachers will participate in a training workshop organised by the Ministry of Basic Education to keep them abreast with the new pedagogic methods. Thereafter, the teachers will sign their recruitment contracts. The Director of Human Resources says in a month, he is sure the newly recruited will start receiving their salaries.
