A Commonwealth delegation is expected in the country in the days ahead for an inspection visit.Cameroon will host the next edition of the Under-17 Commonwealth handball championship. According to the President of the Cameroon handball federation, Jules Moudime Njalla, preparations are advanced and that they are merely waiting on the Ministry of Sports and
Physical Education to provide the means for the preparations to enter the active phase. He disclosed that a delegation from the Commonwealth office in London comprising the secretary general and administrative director of the Commonwealth handball association is expected in the country from April 29 to May 3rd 2010, to sort out practical modalities with the officials of the Cameroon handball federation who serve as the local organisation committee. Some 20 handball clubs from all the four zones of the world are expected to take part in the competition which will run from August 25 to September 5, 2010.In order to ensure that Cameroon makes an honourable participation in the tournament, the Cameroon handball federation organised competitions for the youths in Douala and Garoua to detect young talents. The competition in Garoua was known as the ??Septentrion Cup??. ??We have got good things to show and the athletes have got something to offer??, he said optimistically. He said the tournament is coming at a time when the Cameroon handball federation is putting emphasis on injecting new and young blood into the discipline owing to the dismal performance of both the male and female national teams in the 19th edition of the African nation??s cup in handball that took place recently in Egypt.This is the second time the handball federation is hosting an international competition since the inauguration of the Yaounde sports complex.
