Senate: Presidential decree sets date for election

The Electoral College has been convened for 25th March 2018.
The information is contained in a Presidential decree signed this Wednesday, 7th February 2018 by President Paul Biya. The decree stipulates that the elections will be organised in various divisional headquarters of Cameroon.
The announcement of the Senatorial elections comes at a time when the elections organising body, ELECAM has been into all nooks and crannies of the country to get potential voters after the election register was reopened.
The operation to get new registered voters began on 2nd January 2018 and is considered the last before the four elections scheduled this year.
The Senatorial elections therefore mark the beginning, to be followed by the Council, Legislative and Presidential elections in an order to be determined by the President.
The Electoral College for the Senatorial elections is composed principally of municipal councillors who are expected to cast their votes in their divisional headquarters. They are expected to elect 70 of the 100 Senators while the 30 others remain the prerogative of the President of Republic.
