Sangmelima Referal Hospital Nears Completion

The Minister of Public Health André Mama Fouda on Wednesday inspected the construction site of the Hospital in the Dja and Lobo Division.Work is gradually but surely coming to an end at the Sangmelima Referral Hospital in the Dja and Lobo Division of the South Region. The Minister of Public Health André Mama Fouda on Wednesday August 24 visited the construction site of the hospital. The Minister was accompanied

by a delegation from the Ministry of Public Health as well as authorities of the Dja and Lobo Division. At the site, the atmosphere was calm. One could hear the sound of engines and workers going about their work.
In a working session with members of the organising committee and the contractor, the minister said he was in Sangmelima to visit site to access the level of work. The officials of the construction company used the opportunity to present their problems which were mostly delays in provision of funds that is slowing down work. Minister André Mama Fouda assured them that government and all contributors will work with the company to complete the work. André Mama Fouda expressed satisfaction with the work done.

The hospital building has been completed and what is left is the construction of lodging for hospital staff, access roads, lawns, a fence, foot paths, and recreational facilities. Minister Mama Fouda said the problem still facing the project is electricity, water supply and special air condition for the theatre. He said the Ministry of Public Health signed a contract with AES Sonel to provide the site with two transformers. Already, government has acquired a generator of 650 watts. According to the Minister another generator is still awaited from the abroad. Minister André Mama Fouda said the hospital will also be a university teaching hospital and so care must be taken to ensure the best quality in order to ensure the security of patients.

Jamai Nuri, head of technical and financial department of the construction company said not much work is still left to be done. He said the delay is due to the fact that generators and equipment ordered from abroad have not yet arrived. He added that all has been put in place so that from 1st September the rest of the work will start. The company hopes to complete the project by December 31. Sources close to the Ministry of Health say some blocks of the hospital may be ready by end of December but the entire completion of the project has been prolonged to February 2012.
