Potable water returns to Yaoundé after several days

Potable water has begun running down the nostrils of taps in the capital city Yaounde after several days of dryness. For over three days, water supply was progressively interrupted in several neighbourhoods

in Yaounde.

This interruption in the flow of water was blamed on a breakdown of some installations which was never repaired because workers of the water treatment and distribution corporation – CamWater were on strike. The interruption of water supply later advanced to other neighbourhoods; a situation which compelled households to resort to wells or cover long distances in quest for water for household chores. Following this disturbing situation, government stepped in to restore order in the sector. A meeting bringing together the striking workers, officials of CamWater, the Minister of Labour and Social Security and the Minister of Water and Energy was organised in Yaounde yesterday 7th May 2009. At the end of the meeting a consensus was reached and the strike was called off. The latest measure ruptured the privation endured by inhabitants of Yaounde who resorted to unsafe water sources.
