Three regional heads of security services sacked in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has dismissed three heads of the regional directorates of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in the Kyiv, Lvov and Ternopil regions. The three decrees were published Monday on the president's website.

Thus, Vladimir Zelenski dismissed Sergueï Zaïats who directed the security services in kyiv, Yuri Boreitchouk who took care of it in Ternopol and Artiom Bondarenko who worked in Lvov. The latter was also designated by a new decree as head of the security services in kyiv.

On July 17, the Ukrainian president dismissed the head of Ukraine's Security Service Ivan Bakanov and the general prosecutor Irina Venediktova. Mr. Zelenski explained these resignations by numerous facts of high treason noted among the employees of the security service and the prosecution. According to the Ukrainian President, currently 651 investigations are carried out against officials suspected of collaborationism. Mr. Zelenski underlined that “such a quantity of crimes committed against the very foundations of national security raises many questions with regard to the leaders of the services”.
