Roger Athanase Meyong Abath, Principal Inspector of Financial Administrations and former Head of Tax Inspection at the DGI, has been appointed Director General of Taxes in Cameroon.

This appointment comes after the secondment of Modeste Mopa Fatoing to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Meyong Abath has an impressive track record in the field of taxation. A graduate of IRIC, ENAM and the École Supérieure des Mines de Paris, he holds a doctorate in taxation from the University of Paris Dauphine. In particular, he was Director of Large Companies in Cameroon and contributed as an expert on Cameroon to the process of tax harmonization in Central Africa. Writer and associate teacher in many universities, he is the author of the book “Tax and customs harmonization in the CEMAC zone”.

Over the past ten years, the DGI's overall revenue has increased, from CFAF 1 billion in 059 to CFAF 2010 billion at the end of 2. Meyong Abath will have a heavy responsibility to continue the reforms initiated by his predecessor and to maintain the course of state revenues in constant growth.
