46th edition of the National Youth Day: Youths Demonstrate Commitment

Over 2,500 youths reaffirmed their support through messages on banners.The 46th edition of the National Youth Day was celebrated nationwide on Saturday February 11, 2012. In Yaounde the grand march past at the May 20 Boulevard crowned week-long activities to mark the event. The theme for this year was ??Youth and participation in the Major Accomplishments policy for an emerging Cameroon.??For more than two hours, over 2500 youths from schools in the seven subdivisions of Yaounde, clad in their beautiful school uniforms, marched past the grand stand full of excitement. For many, it was their first time of taking part in the march past. The dynamic and energetic youths demonstrated their commitment to the nation through

messages on banners. The messages on the banners were clearly written in both French and English.The first group named ??National Integration?? was made up of youths from the 10 regions and carried the banner on which it was written ??Yes to national integration and consolidation of traditional values??; showing that Cameroonians live in peace and unity despite the cultural diversity. The pupils of elementary education opened the march past for schools. For over 30 minutes, the pupils in 70 squares thrilled the public with a patriotic song, praising the peace that reigns in Cameroon. Some of the messages read ??Yes to peace and unity?? and ??Young people, let us be united for a strong and stable nation.?? Secondary school students came with banners thanking the Head of State for the recruitment of 25,000 certificate holders into the Public Service. It was a special message as the students carried placards on which it was written 25,000.The group made of universities and higher institutions expressed challenges to take up in order to reach Major Accomplishments for an emerging Cameroon such as the fight against corruption, inertia, discrimination, major pandemics and organised crime, among others. A group of squares to pay homage to the First Lady, Mrs Chantal Biya was not left out. The youths in patriotic outfits crowned with flowers, praised the humanitarian and pacific activities of Mrs Chantal Biya.In all, the Cameroonian youths once more assured the public that they are a force to reckon with in nation building. The march past took place in the presence of cabinet ministers, representatives of the diplomatic corps and guests.
