Cameroon – Military Assistance: Cameroon’s Military Receives First Aid Training From US

Cameroonian soldiers are being trained on first aid techniques and medical evacuation techniques, in the Far North region, in order to reduce the number of deaths suffered at the battle front.

The training session is led by the United States military, following reports that one-fourth of all soldiers killed in the Far North or the North West and South West regions, could have been saved if they received immediate medical attention or first aid.

According to reports, at least 117 soldiers have died from wounds that would not have been fatal had they received the correct first aid.

About one-fourth of all Cameroonian military deaths in the battles against English-speaking separatists and the Nigerian militant group Boko Haram. One of the US trainers, revealed the course on medical evaluation, included evacuating casualties by air.

We talked about the different levels of CASEVAC, so you have your own legs, you can move the patient yourself, you have different pack bones that they can use. Make sure they are not bleeding while they are being transported.”, VOA quoted Major Mommearts.

He continued that the training is an indication military cooperation between the U.S. and Cameroon is excellent. That is the reason the U.S. military has come to train their Cameroonian peers, to save lives and prevent deaths in different battle grounds. Thirty Cameroonian military staff received the U.S. training this week and are expected to transfer the skills gained to their peers.

At least 100 police officers and soldiers have been killed in the Anglophone regions for the past three years, as armed separatists struggle to create an independent state. The number of deaths is worse in the Far North region of Cameroon, as terrorist group, Boko Haram’s attacks increase in that area.
