Cameroon Academy Of Sciences Inducts New Fellows

Some 12 fellows were December 12 inducted by the Secretary General in the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation.Membership into the Cameroon Academy of Sciences (CAS) has moved from 85 to 97. The remarkable increase was witnessed in Yaounde on Monday December 12 during the induction ceremony of 10 fellows and two associate fellows into the College of Biological Sciences, Mathematical and Physical Sciences and the College of Social Sciences.Chaired by representatives from the Ministries of Scientific Research and Innovation and that of Higher Education, two fellows were admitted

into the College of Biological Sciences, three into the College of Mathematics and Physical Sciences and seven into the College of Social Sciences. The new fellows who include icons like Prof. Wilfred Mbacham, Prof. Nkuo-Akenji Theresa, Prof. Samuel N. Ayonghe and Prof. Cornelius Mbifung Lambi were heartily welcomed to the academy by its President, Prof. Samuel Domngang, who in turn urged them to embrace the spirit of solidarity as the association strives for better days and achievements. An inaugural lecture by Prof. Jean Emmanuel Pondi, fellow of CAS, College of Social Sciences on the balance sheet of 50 years of Cameroon??s Independence was one of the high points of the event with calls for the new fellows to work towards solidifying communities.The new fellows received encouragement certificates from the representative of the Minister of Higher Education and the President of CAS, Samuel Domngang, who reminded them of the need to continue to champion the course of the academy which is the prime mover of science and technology-synthesis of scientific knowledge and making it available to decision and policy makers. The vision is for investments and priorities in science and technology, as well as promoting the use of science and innovation in the economic, social and cultural development of Cameroon.Created in 1991, the Cameroon Academy of Sciences is out to promote excellence and relevance in science and technology and to provide advice to the government. The Academy produces robust forum and committee advisory documents and reports on priority problems and issues and delivers them to policy makers and the public.
