Subvention to Private Press: National Commission Meets

The National Commission for assistance to enterprises of the private communication sector have begun meeting in Yaounde for its sixth session.
The opening session was chaired by the Minister of Communication, Issa Tchiroma Bakary this Tuesday, 20th February 2018.
A total of one hundred and fifty files will be examined during the current seating.
The files have been presented by organs of the private communication sector classified in the following categories;
# 65 – Newspaper publications
# 11 – Commercial Radio Stations
# 6 – Television Stations
# 3 – Printing Press
# 3 – Producers
# 11- Online Media Outfits
# 01- Global Communication
# 08 – Professional Organizations
# 43- Community Radio Stations
Mr Tchiroma enjoined the commission members to uphold objectivity and discretion in examining the files more so as government’s subvention for 2017 has witnessed a drop.
From the 240 million shared in 2016, members will deliberate on 216 million for the 2017 calender year.
The government of Cameroon has opted to assist private media enterprises in recognition of the important role they play in the advancement of the country.
These media enterprises have been enjoined to contribute to the success of two major upcoming events.
# 2018 Elections
# 2019 AFCON
Subvention to these enterprises was instituted sixteen years ago.The aim
was to boost the technical, logistical, and financial capacities of beneficiary media outlets .
