Raped while fetching water to drink… Today it would be very risky for everyone to ignore questions that seem normal, despite their relevance. Considered cross and without apparent links to the theme of sexuality, lack of access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation in some communities, are the cause of certain defects. The victims are women and children, in charge of this task daily. It is estimated that there are several factors that encourage such acts. One but not least is the lack of drinking water or toilet facilities for all. Her name is Fatima, beautiful girl of sixteen, in First class, living in the region of northern Cameroon. Raped on the way to the source of the village by his friend from high school, and forced to remain silent, and under pressure, it would have an abortion. Not once, for indeed, there will be many. Behind this brief history of the teenager, hides a problem
that we wish to raise: the right to basic social services such as access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation. In fact, Fatima would have been raped for the second time ever on the path that the daily distances from home in search of drinking water for his family. In this region, or the rate of girls is among the lowest in the country is a feat to find a girl of that age achieve that level of schooling. But unfortunately, ruined it for a drive about access to drinking water. Millions of people in Africa are seriously drinking water, or else face every day in our countryside and rural areas with poor hygiene or sanitation. Fatima's case, is not far from that of many others who refuse to go to school simply because it does not exist in some schools of clean toilets. The fact seems trite and improbable, but reflects the symbolic suffering thousands of young people. It obviously knows the delicacy of personal hygiene for girls and their exposure to infection in the case of using the toilet. We believe it is urgent that this component is an axis of financing for development partners. This is the advocacy of several networks of national and regional newspapers in West Africa. The option is to attract the attention of policymakers on these issues which are within the MDGs, but which are neglected.
