Cameroonian author of World Cup song yet to receive royalties Yaounde (Cameroon) Cameroonian musical band Zangalewa, author of the song which was taken over by Colombia's Shakira in lieu of a anthem to the football World Cup South Africa 2010, has so far not received any royalties or compensation.
The band learnt through the media that its most known song would be the official World Cup song with "Waka Waka, Time for Africa", performed by Shakira and the South African band Freshlyground at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.
The Cameroonian band has received no explanation from the singer or her producer, the US multi-national Sony Music Entertainment.

"Our former colleague Emile Kojidie is today following the issue in the United States where he leaves since his retirement," one of the three authors of the song, Victor Dooh Belley said, adding that they hired two lawyers : a German and an American.

Zangalewa band leader Jean-Paul Ze Bella revealed that in a few days time, the three authors should visit South Africa at the invitation of Sony Music Entertainment, for a press conference with Shakira.

"Nothing has been decided in relation to the adaptation of our work. Our contacts with Sony go beyond this aspect and target a long-term collaboration," he admitted.

The original title, "Zangalewa", released in 1986, was a great success in Cameroon and Africa.

This song is a bunch of onomatopoeia dedicated to soldiers who want to give themselves courage at the front, and laments of young recruits as a result of hazing.

The Zangalewa band, which broke up a decade ago, announced an imminent come back. It belongs to Cameroon's Presidential Guard. All its members are retired soldiers except Victor Dooh Belley.
